This functional sculpture by Marius Ritiu reimagines the daybed as a fragment of the cosmos—a fallen meteor transformed into a place of rest and contemplation. Hand-hammered in copper and finished with a richly developed patina, its rugged, cratered surface evokes the ancient textures of celestial bodies that have travelled through space before coming to rest on Earth. Polished copper planes emerge like exposed metallic cores, catching and reflecting light in contrast to the weathered exterior, recalling the brilliance hidden beneath a meteor's scorched crust. Balancing monumental sculptural presence with everyday function, the work invites the viewer to inhabit a symbolic intersection between the terrestrial and the celestial. By transforming a cosmic relic into a functional object, the sculpture reflects on themes of time, origin, and humanity's enduring fascination with the universe, offering a space where the act of resting becomes an intimate encounter with the vastness of the cosmos.
