sculpture illustrating a meteorite presented during Marius Ritiu's solo show in NYC at Slag gallery The Apocalypse – Sisyphus Part VI is a monumental sculpture by Marius Ritiu presented during his solo exhibition at Slag Gallery in New York, continuing his ongoing Sisyphus cycle of “meteorite” works. In this series, Ritiu develops large-scale hand-hammered copper forms that evoke the impact and mass of celestial bodies, placing them within gallery and urban contexts as if they have crashed into human environments. In this particular work, the “meteorite” becomes a narrative and spatial presence, suggesting both arrival and catastrophe—an object that feels as though it has fallen from space and momentarily disrupted the architectural order of the exhibition space. Like the rest of the Sisyphus cycle, it reflects Ritiu’s broader interest in repetition, displacement, and the tension between human scale and geological or cosmic forces, turning sculpture into a speculative fragment of a larger, imagined planetary event.
